Cape Charles and the surrounding Eastern Shore offer something for everyone — whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure. Here are some of our favorite things to do nearby.

Spend a day at Cape Charles’ free public beach, known for its calm, shallow waters perfect for young swimmers. The adjacent fishing pier is great for casting a line (no fishing license needed—the Town’s pier license covers you, though you’ll want to complete a free Virginia FIP registration first) and offers stunning sunset views over the Bay. The beach is a short drive or bike ride away, and we provide beach chairs and towels for your use.

Stroll down Mason Avenue in the Historic District to explore charming boutiques, antique shops, and galleries. Don’t miss Brown Dog Ice Cream for a homemade cone on a hot day, or stop by Cape Charles Brewing Co. for craft beer and lunch on their lawn. For dinner, try The Shanty on the harbor for seafood with a view (often with live music on summer weekends), or Hook @ Harvey and The Oyster Farm Eatery for waterfront dining with sunset vistas. Be sure to catch a sunset from the pier or the beach — it’s an experience you won’t forget!

Bring or rent a boat and explore the Chesapeake Bay or nearby creeks. The Kings Creek Landing marina connects to Kings Creek and the broader Bay — you can boat a short way to the town harbor for lunch (transient slips are available if you dine at The Shanty) or cruise out to fish. If you prefer paddling, Kiptopeke State Park offers seasonal kayak rentals, where you can explore the calm shoreline and paddle out to see the historic WWII concrete ships. Local fishing charters and sunset boat tours depart from Cape Charles Harbor if you want a guided experience.

Nature lovers will enjoy Kiptopeke State Park (about 15 minutes away) — it offers hiking trails, a large fishing pier open 24/7, boat ramps, and a quiet beach with unusual ‘concrete ship’ breakwaters offshore. You can fish, watch for migratory birds, or picnic by the bay. Another nearby gem is the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge, with walking trails and a visitor center showcasing local wildlife. For a unique day trip, consider visiting Chatham Vineyards (25-minute drive north) for a wine tasting, or take the family to SouthEast Expeditions for guided kayak eco-tours.

If you golf, Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles has two acclaimed golf courses (Palmer and Nicklaus designs) with gorgeous bay views. Even non-golfers can enjoy Bay Creek’s Coach House Tavern for a meal or walk the trails in the conserved nature areas around the courses. Cape Charles is also golf-cart friendly — you’ll see many locals driving carts around town (rentals are available if you’re interested in trying one). The community of Kings Creek Landing itself is great for a morning jog or evening walk on the quiet streets and nature trail, where you might spot herons or bald eagles.

Depending on the season, Cape Charles hosts fun events — a weekly farmers’ market, ‘Movie Night on the Lawn’ in summer, Fourth of July festivities with fireworks over the harbor, and Festive Fridays during the holiday season when shops stay open late. Ask us about any current events happening during your stay!

When we’re not in Cape Charles, we live in Lancaster, PA and work in the hospitality industry. Our family loves boating, beachcombing for seashells, and getting ice cream at Brown Dog. We hope you’ll make as many wonderful memories here as we have.
We personally manage the property and will ensure you have a five-star experience. Thank you for considering our home for your vacation!
